hwlcky - Jehnova x lod (feat. Uly)

‘I wanted to capture how in my life, I feel like I’ve gotten used to the loop of the everyday; doing the same shit, getting trapped inside a ‘things will never change’ state of mind. Success, independence and freedom feel impossible to attain when you’re trapped in that kind of routine. The progression of the lyrics is liberation from that, understanding how significant a new day can be — if you choose to look at it as such.’ — Jehnova

hwlcky (ft. Uly) - Jehnova x lod by Jehnova, lod, Uly, released 02 October 2020

We’re excited to share a brand new release from andfriends - hwlcky (pronounced how lucky) from Jehnova x lod and featuring Uly. This low-fi hip hop single draws you in with its soulful tone, heightened by the original verses that run over it. The track itself is an ode to breaking out of repetitive loops, exemplified in the song with its breaks and collaborative elements. A stand-out single from this stellar independent label. Stream the track, add it to your playlists and follow the artists to keep up to date with their future releases.

About Jehnova
@jehnova_

A versatile hip-hop lyricist from Dublin, Jehnova’s deep-rooted influences span from Nas, AZ, Mobb Deep, and 2Pac. But Jehnova also stands firmly on his own artistic footing, delivering nostalgic, loose but lyrically-drenched rap reminiscent of 90s-era boombap and contemporary cloud rap. Growing up in South Africa — where jazz and soul were prominent — Jehnova has honed a uniquely relaxed, spoken-word delivery that seamlessly fuses contemporary and classic influence.

About lod
@lod.productions

The heart of lod’s production is a unique blend of swinging drums, paired with textured samples, chops and soulful chord progressions. The Dublin born producer’s main inspiration is the late great J Dilla, and now that lod is in his final year of Audio and Music Technology at Pulse College in Windmill Lane, he’s focusing on evolving his sound. A number of his solo instrumental EPs are already available across a variety of streaming platforms, but this latest collaboration is set to be lod’s biggest project yet.

About Uly
@uly.mjm

The moniker of Dublin-based lo-fi artist (and creative director of andfriends records) Rafino Murphy, Uly is on a steady upward rise. Blending delicate vocals with unexpected instrumentation, he crafts warm and familiar indie neo-soul jams. His debut EP, ‘if you were a day, you’d be Sunday — songs to go walking to’ is out now on Faction Records.
